Stop Paying the “Etsy” Price

Unless you live under a rock, you have heard of Etsy. It’s a HUGE internet marketplace for vintage and handmade goods. What you probably don’t know is that it is fillllllllled with get-rich quick sh*t from China. Yes. I’m not kidding you. They will order dresses, moccasins, headbands, etc from places like AliBaba.com and sell it to YOU for 3X THE PRICE they paid for it.

I am a former Etsy seller. I sold my items in the highly saturated baby and toddler market. I sold personalized baby and toddler onesies and tees for almost three years for $20 a pop. I will admit, I marked my items way high because well, everyone was doing it and raising three kids isn’t cheap. During my time at Etsy, I made over $89K and all I did was sit at home and iron on stickers to shirts. That’s it.

I lost my shop due to copyright infringment, because this amazing society full of first-world problems has trademarked the phrase, “You’re killin’ me smalls” and the person that owned that phrase shut my store down faster than you could say, “You’re killin’ me, smalls!” My family took a huge hit. It was devastating.

But aside from that, YOU NEED TO STOP PAYING THE ETSY PRICE. Let me break the cost down for you (by the by, I used a regular shop to purchase my onesies from, I didn’t even use a wholesaler):

+ Onesie: $3.75
+ Iron On: $1.25
+ Mailer: $0.15
+ Inserts/Packaging: $0.50
+ Time: $1.50

Total of: $7.15

Etsy vendors are charging you $19.99 (sometimes more) PER ITEM PLUS SHIPPING.

These Etsy vendors are getting rich off of really simple things you could do yourself. They’re buying homes, cars, daily Target runs all while we go broke buying things we can make ourselves. Think about it next time, maybe if all of us back off from Etsy, they will lower their prices! Who knows.

All you need is a Cricut, Vinyl Rolls at Discount Price, and an Iron to do it yourself.

Always disgruntled,

Cookie Swirl C YouTube “Star”

My children discovered YouTube about 3 years ago and honestly, I have no idea how. I don’t know the genesis of how they saw the “YouTube” icon and thought, “Oh! There’s videos on this for me.” But, we have since downloaded the YouTube kids’ app because not all videos were in fact for kids. Go figure.

Yesterday, my daughter was watching “Cookie Swirl C [heheheheh]” and I wanted to claw my ears off 45 seconds in. I asked if I could watch some of the videos with her and honestly, I am amazed.

Why Cookie Swirl C is the worst:

  • She is like 30. Playing with Children’s toys. No children are ever featured in her videos. It’s odd.
  • Is she targeting a Children’s demographic because it’s easy cash? Popular YouTube stars get paid 6 f*king figures.
  • She squeals and sings, “Ooooo” or some other weird phrases in obviously, audibly-altered pitches.
  • She does not have anything education going on in these videos. Not saying that EVERY show has to be educational, but I feel my brain turning to mush after a few minutes.
  • Cookie Swirl C doesn’t show her face. Has she ever? I’m sure she did the face reveal, but I think if you’re going to play with toys on camera, at least own up to it.
  • She gets FAN mail. Like little kids are sending her “blind bags”…. Why?

There are a few videos that I think are really neat, like when she bakes a “Shopkin” cake or makes squishies out of sponges, but other than that, she’s just dancing Shopkins around the table, opening gifts from fans or from companies that give her free sh*t. What education is in that? I estimate that these YouTube stars are going to put actual children’s networks out of business and replace it with absolute moronic sh*t on YouTube.

But for those of us who work 12 hour days and are full-time students, it’s hard to watch some bored house wife sit and play with toys for an hour of her day earning $$$$$$$ per year? I work my butt off and I can’t afford everything she’s advertising to my kids. The little green-eyed monster is here to stay with me when it comes to ridiculous YouTube “stars”.

But hey, it’s America! As long as you have neon nails, a high pitched voice, expensive toys and an iphone, your dreams really can come true.

HobbyKidsTV, we’re over it.

Have you guys ever seen the YouTube channel, Hobby Kids TV? They each have a weird, hobby+animal name, it’s hilarious. Every time they come on [that noxious little jingle in the beginning of every video, omg], I wish to goodness my son would turn it the hell off. They are the most spoiled kids. I can only assume that they will be so bored with life because they are just handed everything.

I know I’m not actually there, living with them, I don’t know if they’re disciplined or made to do chores before they’re given insane amounts of toys and candy to play with on camera.

My kids have to do a full week of chores before I give them $5 that they can choose to save or spend. It takes my kids a month to buy even ONE of the toys they play with and brag about on these stupid, f*king videos. These channels are giving children unrealistic views of money and, really, life in general. These parents are making $$$$$$, way more than you and I, by exploiting their kids. They don’t look at it like that, I’m sure, but I do.

It makes me so sick to see kids that are given free stuff by companies, who will they be in our society? They will be the ones that bully OUR children because vacuous millennial parents teach kids that, “Oh! Well, what my baby wants, my baby gets!” It’s stupid. They are crippling their kids and it will impact the lives of children who actually work for what they have.

Chase’s Corner too. All of them. They need to go away. We need Ren and Stimpy, Rocco’s Modern Life, and Ah! Scary Monsters back.
